Model Policy on Office-Based Treatment of Opioid Addiction (Relates to the Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 - DATA) - 2013 Version!

The model guidelines are designed to encourage state medical boards to adopt consistent standards, promote public health by availing opioid addicted patients of appropriate treatment, and educating the regulatory and physician communities on new treatment modalities offering an alternative in the treatment of opioid addiction.

Note: These old guidelines are still in use by many states. Practitioners in those states should also consult the new guidelines listed above and conduct a practice evaluation to ensure compliance with evolving standards of care and licensing board expectations. Just because your licensing board hasn't adopted the 2013 FSMB guidelines, does not mean they will not use the content of the same against you in a board action through medical expert testimony.

Model Policy for the Use of Controlled Substances for the Treatment of Pain.

2004 version.

The Federation issued the new policy in May 2004, following a vote by the Board of Delegates adopting the new policy. The new policy contains updated definitions, new information about the undertreatment of pain, and new developments regarding the evaluation of functionality in patient follow-up visits.
