Prescribers should pay attention to this case!

If you prescribe a controlled substance to a patient who later dies, and the drug you prescribe is ruled by the medical examiner to have resulted in the patient's death (or contributed to it), you will face the causation arguments raised in Burrage if you are later charged with the illegal distrubtion of a controlled substance resulting in death under 21 USC 841 and specific subsections.
